Me, Myself, and I

Tell me about yourself as best you can in a few paragraphs. What are your favorite: movies, types of music, etc.? How, why and when did you find your way to Georgia State? Where are you from and what's it like there?

I'm Adiam, I'm 18 years old, and I am a freshman here at Georgia State. My major is Psychology and I want to be a psychiatrist when I get older. I currently live in Lawrenceville, GA with my parents. I am the youngest of three children and I have two older brothers. I went to Central Gwinnett High School and graduated from there in May 2008. I was in orchestra for five years throughout middle school and high school. I played the violin, but I dropped out my sophomore year of high school, and now I regret that decision because I completely suck at the violin now. I also play the piano. I've been playing since I was in third grade and I love it. I work in a movie theater, and I have been working there since I was sixteen. I've seen a lot of movies over the past two years of working there. Some of my favorite movies are The Pursuit of Happyness, Crash, Hotel Rwanda, I Am Legend, Transformers, and A Walk to Remember. I don't really like romantic movies, but A Walk to Remember was an exception. It was the one and only movie to ever make me cry. I don't cry very often so it really had an impact on me. It made me want to read the book and I enjoyed it very much. I like listening to mainly R&B. My favorite R&B artists are Keyshia Cole, Rihanna, and Mariah Carey.

I stumbled my way into Georgia State during my senior year of high school. I applied to Georgia State University as a backup if I didn't get accepted to the school I initially wanted to attend. Georgia State was actually my second choice, and as you can see, I did not get accepted into my first choice of, Stony Brook University in New York. I am originally from New York. I grew up in the Bronx, and moved down to Georgia during my last years of elementary school. It was a big change to go from a big city-like atmosphere to a rural environment. I've been living in Georgia for a while so I'm used to it now, but I love it up there. It is very crowded and there is always something going on. There is never a dull moment when you're there. The city is so alive and the coined phrase, "the city that never sleeps" explains New York very well. I was born in NY, but I don't consider myself as a "New Yorker". I consider myself to be Eritrean. Both my mother and father are from Eritrea, which is located in the northeast portion of Africa. Most people never heard of it because it just recently became an independent country. I visited there once when I was four years old, but I don't really remember that much since I was so young. I would like to go back and visit now that I am older because it feels as if I lost touch with my culture, and I would like to regain that.
